General Information

The PVL was formed to provide excellent and consistent elite-level competition opportunities, while employing a flexible tournament format, and making our events fun for our athletes. We strive for the highest levels in quality tournament events, backed by our responsive communication and easy registration.

Teams will earn their way into the PVL via seeding and a play-in tournament (18U-13U age groups – top 36 teams, 12U age group – top 24 teams). The tournament schedule and format will keep a family-centric focus by being respectful of avoiding holidays (e.g., Mother’s Day, Easter), and efficiently running the day’s tournament format, while still creating elite competition. Out-of-region teams are welcome in our 2-day and special event tournaments. To keep things fun, top-performing teams will be recognized for their achievements throughout the tournament series.

The PVL follows the age definitions as set by USA Volleyball.

The PVL follows the tryout dates as set by the SCVA through the region.

Once an SCVA regional team is entered in the PVL, they will stay and compete in the PVL for the duration of the season. Club, player, and coaches’ registration is through SCVA. Tournament registration is through PVL via Advanced Events Systems (AES). With our registration system, tournaments can be registered for separately, e.g., a-la-carte, or “as you go”, to allow for maximum financial flexibility for clubs (2-Day tournament is an exception – both dates must be registered for at the same time). This allows for changes in team status as it may pertain to COVID-related events, such as team quarantine needs. Tournament entry deadline is clearly stated.

Unless there is a conduct issue, in year 1, member clubs will retain a spot as long as they participate in every event (an exception would be made for any team quarantine-related cancelation/withdrawal).

No ongoing PVL member gets “bumped”. PVL will adapt the tournament field and format to insert the out-of-state teams, while retaining all of its SoCal members. To illustrate – a 36 team “carryover field” would go to 42 teams to insert 6 out of region teams for a two-day event.

The league will maintain a mutually-beneficial working relationship with the SCVA while operating as a stand-alone league. All PVL teams, coaches, and athletes will be registered through the SCVA to ensure proper insurance coverage and access to staff background checks and SafeSport. Teams will continue to be eligible for earning bids to USAV Jr. Nationals through the region.
